Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain takes charge of Southern Command
Lieutenant General Sandeep Jain is now leading the Indian Army's Southern Command, stepping in after Lt. Gen. Dhiraj Seth moved up to vice chief of the Army staff.
With about 38 years in service (commissioned June 1988), Lt. Gen. Jain brings a wealth of experience to one of India's most important military regions.
Sandeep Jain backs teamwork and JAI
Lt. Gen. Jain has led missions from South Sudan to counterinsurgency operations along the Line of Control and in the Northeast, and he's worked with the United Nations too.
Now overseeing a region that covers 41% of India, spanning 11 states and four union territories, he's focusing on boosting teamwork within the forces and supporting homegrown defense projects under the JAI framework.
His leadership has already earned him top honors like the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal and Sena Medal.
