LPG shortage in Mumbai affects restaurants; 'rava dosa' on pause
India
Mumbai restaurants are scrambling as an LPG shortage, amid reports linking it to the West Asia conflict, disrupts their daily operations.
India depends on LPG imports that come through the Strait of Hormuz, but vessel movement has stalled, leaving kitchens across the city short on fuel.
As a result, many spots have had to change up their menus: think Gypsy in Dadar considering removing slow-cooked dishes like roast chicken and Sharda Bhavan in Matunga pausing rava dosa.
Prices have shot up by ₹120 per cylinder
To make things tougher, LPG prices have shot up by ₹120 per cylinder.
Restaurant associations have reached out to Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri for support, saying this shortage is putting serious pressure on Mumbai's hospitality industry.
