Ludhiana businessmen hit with death threats, crores demanded
Two Ludhiana businessmen were recently targeted in separate extortion attempts over WhatsApp.
Sachin Verma, a goldsmith, got a call from someone claiming to be part of the Amrit Dalam group—linked to gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria—demanding ₹1 crore and threatening his life if he didn't pay.
In a similar incident, realtor Mandeep Singh Grewal received similar threats from another caller demanding ₹2 crore and warning harm to his family.
Police on the case: tech checks and crime links
Both men filed police complaints right after the threats. FIRs were registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
Police are now tracing the calls, checking if these are linked to organized crime groups possibly operating from abroad, and analyzing technical details to track down those behind the threats.
