Maharashtra: Doctor accuses 2 men of raping her, dies by suicide
A 28-year-old government doctor in Satara, Maharashtra, died by suicide on October 23, 2024.
In her note, she accused police sub-inspector Gopal Badane of repeatedly raping her and software engineer Prashant Bankar of mental harassment.
Both men now face charges of rape and abetment to suicide.
The demand for the death penalty for both accused was made by her father and family members after her death.

Bankar was arrested in Pune, while Badane surrendered at a local police station—Badane has been suspended from his job.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis called the case "very serious" and promised justice for the victim's family, who say their earlier complaints were ignored.
Leaders like Ambadas Danve are now urging stronger women's safety measures and action from the National Commission for Women.
