Maharashtra: Doctor's suicide note names police officer, techie

India

A police sub-inspector, Gopal Badane, turned himself in after being accused in the suicide of a 28-year-old doctor from Phaltan Sub-District Hospital.
The doctor was found dead in a hotel room, leaving a note on her palm accusing Badane of repeated sexual assault and techie Prashant Bankar of harassment.
The case quickly caught public attention and led to strong calls for action.

Both accused booked for rape, abetment to suicide

The doctor's family says she was pressured by police to alter medical documents, including post-mortem reports—something she had apparently raised with senior officials earlier this year.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has called for an immediate investigation, promising that authorities will look into both the personal allegations and larger issues around corruption and safety for women doctors at work.
Both Badane and Bankar are now booked for rape and abetment to suicide.
