Maharashtra monsoon at 26%, government asks sowing be delayed
India
Maharashtra's monsoon is off to a slow start: only 26% of the usual rainfall arrived between June 1 and June 15.
With just 27.4mm recorded instead of the normal 103.8mm, the government is asking farmers to hold off on sowing kharif crops for now.
Still, many are prepping fields and raising nurseries for paddy and millet, hoping better weather shows up soon.
Konkan showers, Vidarbha heatwave, cabinet warns
Scattered showers are expected over Konkan and parts of central Maharashtra, but parts of Vidarbha is stuck in a heat wave until at least June 18.
Officials at a cabinet meeting flagged concerns about late rains and shrinking water reserves, urging everyone to manage water carefully so there aren't shortages later in the season.
