Maharashtra records 33 new COVID-19 cases, single death

India

On Monday, Maharashtra logged 33 new COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing the total to 2,370 infections and 33 deaths since January.
Mumbai led with seven new cases, while Thane, Pune, and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar each saw four.

Latest fatality had other health problems

The latest fatality was a 61-year-old man from Nagpur who had other health problems.
In fact, almost all COVID-19 deaths in the state this year have been among people with existing conditions.

Mumbai has nearly 1,000 cases this year

Maharashtra has done over 26,000 tests and seen more than 2,000 recoveries so far.
Still, Mumbai stands out with nearly 1,000 cases this year—over half of them just in June—showing that the virus is still hanging around in the city despite ongoing efforts to control it.
