Malda standoff traps 7 judicial officers over missing voter names
Seven judicial officers, including three women, were trapped for more than nine hours in West Bengal's Malda district after protests broke out over missing names on the voter list.
The standoff ended around 1am when police and paramilitary teams stepped in to safely evacuate everyone.
Election Commission seeks DGP report
As tensions rose, protesters tried to attack the officers' vehicles during the evacuation.
The Election Commission has now asked the Director General of West Bengal Police for a report.
Meanwhile, political parties are trading blame: some pointing fingers at each other, while Trinamool Congress said any protests should stay within legal limits.
As their general secretary put it, protesters should not take the law into their own hands and should not create chaos.
