Mamata Banerjee's plea on voter list revision reaches Supreme Court
The Supreme Court will hear West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's challenge to the Election Commission's Special Intensive Revision, in which she is seeking directions including to halt deletions of flagged voters from electoral rolls, just ahead of the 2026 Assembly elections.
Banerjee argues the process has led to over 58 lakh names being dropped, with lots of confusion around missing names, mismatched details, and big family groupings.
Banerjee seeks more transparency in the process
Banerjee says these voter list changes could keep genuine people—especially from marginalized groups—out of the election.
She's asking for more transparency, easier ways for people to prove their identity or object if they're wrongly deleted, and fair hearings.
The Supreme Court has asked the Election Commission for answers and will take up the case on February 9.
For anyone who cares about voting rights or fair elections, this is one to watch.
