Martyrs Park plan in Nagaland stalled after Assam Rifles objection
A plan to build a Martyrs Park in Mon district, Nagaland, has hit a roadblock.
The park was meant to honor 13 villagers killed in Oting and a 14th victim killed in Mon town the next day, but the Assam Rifles has objected to the chosen site near their camp.
The Konyak Union, which pushed for the park as a tribute, got official approval back in 2022.
Konyak Union vows construction amid dispute
The Assam Rifles says it has a land lease claim, but local officials argue it is not legally valid since it is unregistered.
With no solution after repeated appeals, the Konyak Union announced on March 31 that it will start building anyway if there are more delays, and made it clear it will not take blame for any fallout.
The Assam Rifles has not responded yet, leaving things tense as locals wait to pay their respects.
