Taxi protests in Meghalaya have wrapped up after state officials promised support.
The demonstrations started when a student rally turned violent on August 19, 2026, with masked groups damaging more than 50 vehicles and injuring 16 people, leading to some serious tension between Assam and Meghalaya.
Assam, Meghalaya talks end taxi blockade
After a meeting between leaders from both states, they agreed to report the damages and offer compensation.
Assam-based taxi operators and pressure groups called off the blockade after Saturday's (August 22) meeting, while their Meghalaya counterparts continued to protest on Sunday (August 23) before later calling off the protest after meeting Meghalaya Deputy Chief Minister Sniawbhalang Dhar in Shillong.
