Modi and Carney set to talk at G20 after tough year
India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Canada's PM Mark Carney are meeting at the G20 summit in Johannesburg.
Their catch-up comes after a rocky year—Canada accused India of involvement in the killing of a Khalistan separatist, putting serious strain on their relationship.
This will be their second face-to-face this year, following June's G7 summit.
Both countries push for better ties (and more trade)
Despite tensions, both sides are working to patch things up through talks and trade discussions.
Canada's Foreign Minister Anita Anand recently visited India, with both nations agreeing to respect each other's sovereignty and focus on safety and law enforcement cooperation.
Even with pressure back home for Carney, a joint statement indicates that both governments are committed to moving forward together.
