Mumbai city judge loses ₹93,000 to fake support APK scam
A Mumbai city court judge in Mumbai lost ₹93,000 to cyber fraud after reaching out for help with a phone screen issue.
He called a customer-service number he found online, but it turned out to be fake.
The scammers, pretending to be support staff, asked him to download an APK file and make a small Google Pay transfer, giving them access to his bank information.
Mumbai Police arrest cyber fraud suspect
Once the judge noticed two unauthorized withdrawals from his State Bank of India account, he quickly reported it to the police.
Mumbai Police have launched an investigation. On the same day, they arrested a man linked to dozens of cyber fraud cases across 10 states.
Another case involved one 69-year-old retired senior officer from Mumbai losing ₹1.57 crore.
It is another reminder: always double-check customer-service numbers and never download suspicious files.
