Mumbai man abandons ill grandmother in forest
India
A 33-year-old Mumbai man, Sagar Shevale, was arrested after allegedly leaving his ailing grandmother alone in the Aarey forest late at night.
CCTV footage showed Shevale, along with a relative and an autorickshaw driver, first taking her to Shatabdi Hospital on June 21—but when she wasn't admitted, they abandoned her nearby around 3am.
Charges against the accused
Shevale claimed his grandmother wandered off because of her health issues, but police found this didn't match the CCTV evidence.
All three were charged under laws protecting senior citizens but released with notices for now.
Meanwhile, Cooper Hospital faced criticism for delaying the woman's admission—prompting a human rights inquiry into their handling of the case.
