Mumbai records hottest June night at 30.2°C as monsoon delayed
Mumbai hit a new record for the hottest June night on Friday, with temperatures not dropping below 30.2 degrees Celsius; even coastal Harnai felt the heat.
The main reason? The southwest monsoon is running late; it usually cools things down by mid-June, but now might not arrive until June 25 (or even later, according to Skymet).
Until then, the city's stuck sweating it out.
Dry inland air, weak Arabian systems
Blame dry air blowing in from central India and weak weather systems over the Arabian Sea: both are messing with the usual monsoon flow.
With hardly any rain or clouds to break up the heat, humidity keeps rising.
Plus, strong winds from the sea are trapping warmth at night, making sleep even tougher for everyone.
IMD forecasts Maharashtra rains June 25
The India Meteorological Department says widespread rains should finally hit northern Maharashtra, including Mumbai, and parts of central Maharashtra by June 25.
But until then, expect more sweaty nights and sticky days as pre-monsoon conditions drag on.
