Mumbai schools hit by fake bomb threats; police on the case

India

In January 2024, several Mumbai schools—including Billabong High International School (Santacruz West) and Singapore International School (Mira Road)—received alarming emails about bombs on campus.
The sender, using the name "Divij Prabhakar Lakshmi," referenced a Hyderabad rape case.
Thankfully, these turned out to be hoaxes.

How authorities responded and what's next

Police quickly evacuated students and searched all the schools—no explosives were found.
These threats are being treated as criminal intimidation under Indian law.
Investigators are now tracing digital clues like IP addresses to catch whoever's behind this, especially since at least 17 similar threat emails sent to various establishments over the past year.
No arrests yet, but multiple agencies are working together to track down the culprits using tech tricks to hide their identity.
