Nagaland forest fire finally contained
Good news from Nagaland: the forest fire that broke out in Western Dzukou on December 12 is now under control.
Thanks to a quick response from local guides and authorities, the flames were managed effectively—even though strong winds and tough terrain made things tricky.
Now, with no active fires left, teams from Khonoma Youth, SDRF, and the forest department are just keeping an eye on leftover smoke.
Helicopter support & trekking pause
To make sure things stay safe, an Indian Air Force helicopter is dropping water over smoky spots with Bambi buckets. Trekking in the area is on hold for now—just to be extra cautious.
Kohima's Deputy Commissioner B Henok Buchem gave a shout-out to everyone involved after conducting an aerial survey and meeting firefighters in the village.
Another team will hike up on December 16 to double-check that everything's really settled down.
