Investigation progress

NIA's investigation and arrests in Pahalgam case

The NIA has been investigating the case since April 22, 2025, when the attack took place. They have questioned over 350 locals, including pony operators, shopkeepers and those employed in adventure sports. The first breakthrough came on June 22 with the arrest of Parvaiz Ahmad Jothar and Bashir Ahmad Jothar, from Hill Park, Pahalgam, for harboring terrorists involved in the attack. The duo is accused of providing food and logistical support to the terrorists.

Terrorist neutralization

Terrorists identified and eliminated in Operation Mahadev

The arrested persons revealed that the three terrorists were members of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and came from Pakistan. The NIA has registered a case under Section 19 of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, against them. In July, an operation named "Operation Mahadev" was launched by the Indian Army's 4 Para, along with the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jammu Kashmir Police, to eliminate the terrorists involved in this attack.

Official statement

Union Home Minister's statement on terrorist elimination

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had confirmed the killing of these terrorists in the exercise. He said, "Suleiman was an A-grade LeT commander and was involved in the Pahalgam and Gagangeer (the Z-Morh tunnel) attacks." The NIA chargesheet is expected to provide more details about this investigation and the role played by those arrested in harboring terrorists responsible for one of India's deadliest attacks on tourists.
