NITI Aayog finds 8.25% Indian graduates secure study-related jobs yearly
India
A new NITI Aayog report shows that just 8.25% of Indian graduates land jobs related to what they studied within a year.
With around 3.4 crore (34 million) students in undergraduate courses, mostly B.A. B.Sc. or B.Com. the job market isn't keeping up.
This leaves more than 91% either unemployed or stuck in roles that don't fit their qualifications.
NITI Aayog flags student skills gap
The report points out most students lack practical skills and industry exposure; more than 1.86 crore applications were received for only 55,000 government positions between November 2024 and July 2025.
The big takeaway? Education needs to focus more on practical training so graduates can actually land the jobs they want.
