NITI Aayog report finds 3% of women in formal jobs
Just out: NITI Aayog's report shows only 3% of women covered in the report are in formal jobs, while 71% are either in informal employment or in the NEET segment, those Not in Education, Employment, or Training.
Some of the barriers include caregiving duties and safety worries make it tough for women to join skill programs or land steady jobs.
Report finds 75% want training nearby
Turns out, 75% of women want training centers within 5km from home.
Long commutes, unsafe transport, and rigid schedules keep many from attending.
Lack of childcare and limited job options after training push lots of women into home-based work, which isn't always ideal.
Report recommends Sakhi Booths and mentorship
To fix this, the report suggests things like local Sakhi Booths for awareness, peer mentoring circles, a private info app, and Surakshit Saathi support for safe travel and housing.
Flexible job options are also needed so more women can actually use their skills outside the home.
