Noida: Young software engineer drowns after car plunges into open construction pit
Yuvraj Mehta, a 27-year-old software engineer, lost his life when his SUV fell into an unbarricaded 30-foot-deep construction pit in Noida's Sector 150 late Friday night.
Trapped for about 90 minutes, Yuvraj managed to call his father from atop his sinking car, saying, "Dad, I've fallen into a deep pit filled with water. I'm drowning," but rescue teams couldn't reach him in time.
What happened next and who's responsible?
A delivery agent even tried to save Yuvraj by jumping in but couldn't succeed. Authorities finally recovered Yuvraj's body at around 4:30am.
An FIR has been filed against MJ Wishtown Planner Limited and Lotus Green Construction Private Limited for not putting up basic safety measures like barricades or reflectors.
After the incident, the site's junior engineer was terminated and show-cause notices were issued to several officials, and officials are now under scrutiny for ignoring earlier warnings about this dangerous spot.
