Odisha announces 2-day Diwali break, but only for some districts

India

Odisha just upgraded Diwali celebrations with a two-day public holiday on October 20 and 21, 2025, instead of the usual one.
To balance things out, state employees will need to work on October 25 (a Saturday) this time.
The move comes after temple scholars highlighted that key Diwali rituals actually fall on the evening of October 20, not October 21 as first announced.

Nuapada district has to work on October 20

If you're in Nuapada district, though, it's business as usual on October 20 because of by-election paperwork.
Everywhere else in Odisha, it's a proper two-day Diwali break.
