Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal urges shift from LPG to PNG
India
The government is pushing for a quick shift from LPG cylinders to piped natural gas (PNG) in cities.
Petroleum Secretary Neeraj Mittal called PNG a "safer, cleaner and more efficient cooking fuel" and said this move will make life easier by cutting down on cylinder deliveries and helping India meet its clean energy goals.
Rules ban LPG where piped gas
To speed things up, new rules say homes with access to piped gas can't keep using LPG cylinders.
Special committees will help people make the switch, sort out any issues, and track progress.
This push comes after recent LPG supply hiccups due to the West Asia crisis earlier this year, highlighting how PNG is more reliable for the long run.
