PM Modi lays foundation for Shillong-Silchar greenfield highway
India
Prime Minister Modi just kicked off work on the Shillong-Silchar Greenfield High-Speed Corridor, a 166.8-kilometer, four-lane highway linking Meghalaya and Assam.
The project, costing ₹22,864 crore, will stretch from Mawlyngkhung to Panchgram and aims to make travel smoother across the Northeast.
Corridor will boost local industries, create jobs
This new corridor will slash travel time between Guwahati and Silchar from 8.5 hours to just 5 hours, making road trips way faster.
It will also ease up traffic on NH-6, connect more towns and airports in the region, boost local industries like cement and coal, and help open up trade routes, giving a big push to jobs, tourism, and overall growth in the Northeast.
