PM Modi set to attend BRICS Summit in Brazil
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is heading out on a five-nation tour from July 1-10, with the main event being the BRICS Summit in Brazil on July 6-7.
The summit will bring together leaders from major emerging economies to talk about issues like climate finance, AI governance, and fighting terrorism.
Modi will also meet Brazil's President Lula da Silva for one-on-one talks.
BRICS and India's global ambitions
BRICS isn't just another group—its members represent nearly half of everyone on Earth and about 40% of global GDP.
This year's summit is a big deal for India as it looks to boost its influence among Global South countries and push for fairer global systems (like alternative payment methods that don't rely so much on Western currencies).
Plus, Modi's stops in Ghana, Trinidad and Tobago, Argentina, and Namibia show India's focus on building new partnerships beyond its usual allies.
