Pune smashes 1896 April rain record, Ranjana Navnath Giri killed
India
Pune saw its heaviest April rain in over a century on Thursday: 65mm poured down in just two hours, smashing an 1896 record.
The storm turned tragic in Parvati when a tree fell and killed 60-year-old flower vendor Ranjana Navnath Giri, while two others were hurt.
Pune floods hit roads, power, flights
Flooded roads like Solapur Highway and Magarpatta Road left traffic crawling.
Walls collapsed in Baner and NIBM Road areas, while power cuts hit Kondhwa and Hadapsar.
Even flights weren't spared: an IndiGo flight had to divert to Goa as the city tried to cope with the chaos.
Meteorologists say it was due to wind patterns and moisture from the Arabian Sea.
