Quick thinking railway official prevents train collision
A serious train accident was barely avoided on Thursday night in Tamil Nadu, when two express trains ended up on the same track just five kilometers apart—one moving fast at 110km/h and the other crawling at 8km/h.
The close call happened because of a signal failure that went unnoticed for a while.
TL;DR
How the mix-up happened
The mix-up started when the station master thought the track was clear and let the faster train through.
Thankfully, a controller spotted the danger and quickly cut power to stop the speeding train before anything happened.
What caused the glitch
Turns out, damaged signal cables led to this technical glitch.
Four trains were delayed for hours, and now investigators are focusing on how clearance was given despite obvious issues with the signals.
