Rabies confirmed after mass dog bite in Lanka Assam

A mass dog bite incident in Lanka, Assam, left about 40 people injured on March 26, 2026, and now rabies has been officially confirmed.
After the bites, an animal care team stepped in to investigate and found that some of the dogs involved were carrying rabies.
Assam groups run rabies vaccination drives
The team coordinated with Momi Gogoi and veterinarian Momi Gogoi tested the sample collected from the exhumed domesticated dog.
Lab results confirmed rabies in a domesticated dog and three of six bite cases.
With public health concerns rising, groups like Just Be Friendly and Mission Rabies are running awareness and vaccination drives across Assam to help stop the spread, and they're aiming to wipe out rabies from the state by 2030.
