Rajasthan High Court criticizes delay in Jitendra Kumar's Bharatpur case
The Rajasthan High Court is calling out officials for dragging their feet on a 26-month investigation into an alleged attack on a Dalit family in Bharatpur.
Jitendra Kumar, the petitioner, says 12 people tried to take over his family's farmland by force.
By law, cases like this should be wrapped up in 60 days, but this one has bounced between six officers and is still unresolved.
Justice Shubha Mehta seeks explanations
Justice Shubha Mehta has asked all the officers involved to explain why things have taken so long and pointed out that no one was really keeping an eye on the process.
The current investigating officer says they've finally gathered enough evidence and promised to file a report within two weeks.
The Centre for Dalit Rights welcomed the court stepping in and flagged that required reviews weren't done along the way.
The next hearing is set for September 7, 2026.
