RJD leader Prabhunath Singh gets life in 22-year-old murder case
Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Prabhunath Singh, former Member of Parliament, was sentenced to life imprisonment on May 23 in a 22-year-old murder case. Earlier, Singh, four-time MP from Bihar's Maharajganj, was convicted along with two of his brothers for the murder of MLA Ashok Singh. Prabhunath, Dinanath and Ritesh Singh were sent to custody on May 18.
Prabhunath's relatives also found complicit
Ashok Singh, former Janata Dal MLA from Bihar's Masrakh, was murdered at his official residence on July 3, 1995. His wife filed an FIR at Patna's Sachivalaya police station. But the SC transferred the case to Hazaribagh after reports that Prabhunath and other accused could influence investigation. The list of accused included Prabhunath's relatives Kedar Singh, Ritesh and Sudhir, who were found complicit.
Prabhunath Singh was a close aide of Lalu Prasad Yadav
Prabhunath is a close aide of RJD leader Lalu Prasad Yadav. As an MP, he represented Maharajganj during 2004-2009. He had fought on a JD(U) ticket, but later moved to the RJD. In the 2014 Lok Sabha election, he lost to BJP's Janardhan Singh Sigriwal.
