RSS chief says vegetarianism should be part of national policy

India

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat is encouraging the Indian government to bring vegetarianism into national policy.
Speaking at PES University in Bengaluru, he pointed out that while most Hindus—about 72%—do eat meat, eating habits differ a lot by region and tradition.
He also clarified that India only exports buffalo meat, and cow slaughter remains illegal.

Other key points from Bhagwat's speech

Bhagwat touched on topics like 'love jihad,' urging families to focus on strong cultural values but not to stereotype Muslims.
On caste issues, he pushed for breaking down barriers and said reservations should stay until equality is real for everyone.
Addressing criticism about the RSS being unregistered, he explained it's a group run by member donations—not a political party but a social organization.
