SC orders Delhi to remove stray dogs, but no shelters
Delhi's been told by the Supreme Court to clear stray dogs from public spaces and move them to shelters after sterilization and vaccination.
But here's the catch—there are only 20 shelters for nearly a million strays, and most are already full.
The city needs space for 5,000 more dogs in just a few weeks, but there simply aren't enough resources or facilities to make it happen.
NGOs warn of disease spread, unvaccinated dogs returning
NGOs say cramming more dogs into packed shelters could spread disease and cause suffering.
There's also concern that removing sterilized strays could bring unvaccinated or aggressive dogs back into neighborhoods.
To make things tougher, some shelters haven't been paid by the city yet.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Court has warned of strict action against anyone obstructing the drive—so everyone's feeling the heat right now.
