Communal clashes in Ranchi: 25 injured, 93 arrested
About 25 people, including eight policemen, were injured when clashes broke out in Sukurhutu village of Ranchi after some youths molested women of another community. Violence was triggered after the women had gone out in the evening to the fields. Some youths passed lewd remarks on the way. Both communities clashed, pelted stones at each other and damaged houses. Ninety-three people have been arrested.
Rioters also turned on police
When police reached the site after 15 minutes, rioters turned on them with sticks and swords. The Kanke police station in-charge was hit on the head with a stone and rushed to hospital. 300 additional personnel were deployed as local police teams were outnumbered.
Sukurhuttu limping back to normalcy amid prohibitory orders
"The situation is under control. Forces are camping in Sukurhutu," said said Ranchi SSP Kuldeep Dwivedi. Prohibitory orders have been clamped. Just last week, another Ranchi village, Bargai, had witnessed communal clashes. Violence had erupted in Bargai on June 2 and over a dozen people injured when two communities clashed over music at a marriage party.
