Sharp decline in ₹2,000 banknotes circulation
The RBI just shared that only ₹6,099 crore worth of ₹2,000 notes are still out there—a huge drop from ₹3.56 lakh crore last May.
Over 98% of these big notes have been returned since the withdrawal began, all part of a move to tidy up India's cash system.
Missed the bank deadline? No worries
Missed the bank deadline? No worries—19 RBI offices will still take your old ₹2,000s for exchange or deposit.
You can even mail them in through India Post and get the amount credited straight to your account.
₹2,000 notes are still legal tender
Even though you don't see them much anymore, ₹2,000 notes are technically still legal tender.
These pink bills were launched after demonetization in 2016 but weren't used much for everyday stuff.
Now, RBI wants cleaner currency and is focusing on smaller denominations that people actually use.
