What's the story
In a tragic incident, six passengers were killed after they were hit by a train at Chunar Junction in Uttar Pradesh's Mirzapur district on Wednesday morning, HT reported. The victims had just alighted from the Chopan-Prayagraj Express around 9:15am and were crossing the tracks from the wrong side when they were struck by the Kalka Mail passing through platform number three.

Indian Railways statement
In a statement, the Indian Railways said, "Train no. 13309 (Chopan - Prayagraj Express) arrived at Chunar Station Platform 4 (in Uttar Pradesh). Some passengers got down on the wrong side and were trespassing from the main line while Foot Over Bridge is available." The passengers were run over by train no. 12311 (Netaji Express) at Chunar Main, it added.

Yogi Adityanath orders probe into incident
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has taken cognizance of the incident and expressed condolences to the families of those who died. He has ordered senior officials to reach the site immediately and ensure relief and rescue operations are carried out without delay. The CM also directed SDRF and NDRF teams to assist in these operations, ensuring prompt medical treatment for the injured.

Chhattisgarh train collision kills 11, injures 20
The Mirzapur incident comes a day after a train collision near Bilaspur railway station in Chhattisgarh claimed 11 lives and injured 20 others. The crash occurred when the MEMU passenger train overshot a red signal and rammed into a freight train. One of the coaches of the passenger train was thrown on top of a wagon of the freight train due to impact.

Railway authorities announce compensation for victims' families
Railway authorities have announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh each to the next of kin of those who died in the Bilaspur collision. Seriously injured passengers will receive ₹5 lakh each, while those with minor injuries will get ₹1 lakh each. Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai has also announced an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased and ₹50,000 for injured passengers.
