SpiceJet steps up as IndiGo cancels flights
SpiceJet is rolling out nearly 30 extra flights from Delhi and Mumbai on December 5 and 6, aiming to help travelers stranded by IndiGo's mass cancelations.
This quick move comes after IndiGo grounded all domestic departures from Delhi Airport until midnight on December 5, leaving thousands scrambling for options.
What's going on with IndiGo?
IndiGo has canceled over 1,000 flights since early December, mostly due to crew shortages and stricter pilot rest rules.
Their on-time performance crashed to just 8.5%.
With so many people stuck, ticket prices on other airlines shot up—some Delhi-Mumbai seats crossed ₹80,000 and fares on other major routes also surged dramatically.
Will things get better soon?
IndiGo says it's dealing with technical issues and new scheduling rules.
The aviation regulator has relaxed some pilot rest requirements while investigating the mess.
