Supreme Court declines fresh probe, cites committee on Delhi assaults
The Supreme Court has decided not to start a new investigation into allegations of sexual assault against women during the July 20 student protests in Delhi.
Instead, it pointed out that a special committee, headed by former judge R Subhash Reddy, is already looking into harassment, molestation, and violence targeting women protesters.
Authorities told to preserve protest evidence
This high-powered group is digging into police actions like the use of pellet guns and tear gas, as well as violence from protesters.
They're also checking how victims are being supported and if compensation is being offered.
The committee can take anonymous complaints and will share updates on urgent issues like women's safety.
Authorities have been told to preserve CCTV and drone footage, body-worn camera recordings, videography, wireless communication records, and PCR call logs relating to the protests, so nothing gets lost.
