Supreme Court weighs Tarun Tejpal surrender before 2013 rape appeal

The Supreme Court is looking into whether ex-Tehelka editor Tarun Tejpal must surrender before he can challenge his conviction for a 2013 rape case.
The Bombay High Court had sentenced him to 10 years in prison and gave him four weeks to turn himself in, until the first week of September 2026.
Now, the Goa government says Tejpal needs to either file a certificate confirming his surrender or seek an exemption from surrender before the court for the appeal to be heard.

Tejpal's lawyer argues that since the High Court paused his surrender, he shouldn't have to do anything extra right now.
The court will pass an order on it.
