Big news for commuters: Tamil Nadu's Vettri Payanam program is getting a major upgrade.
Starting October 2 (Gandhi Jayanti), women can ride express, LSS, deluxe, and mofussil busses for free, not just city busses or short hill routes anymore.
This move aims to make travel easier across the state.
No income limit, ₹6,000cr annual cost
There is no income limit: any woman or transgender person can hop on board. The scheme especially helps girl students traveling to colleges in faraway places.
The state expects this expanded plan will cost about ₹6,000 crore each year.
