Telangana auto drivers call off strike after meeting Ponnam Prabhakar
Telangana's auto drivers have decided not to go ahead with their planned strike starting August 24, thanks to some reassuring promises from the government.
After meeting with Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar and officials, union leaders felt their concerns were heard, especially since they'd submitted a long list of demands.
Telangana to set welfare board
The government will set up a welfare board for auto workers, with details to be sorted out in early September.
Auto fares, which haven't changed since 2012, are finally set to get a bump.
Plus, drivers can look forward to ₹1.5 lakh assistance for converting old diesel and petrol autos into electric autos through retrofitting within the Core Urban Region Economy (CURE) area, a subsidy for the purchase of new autos, and an app-based service (think Ola or Uber) for auto services.
