TTD laddus adulteration: Top TTD official arrested over fake ghee scam

The former procurement head of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), R.S.S.V.R. Subramanyam, has been arrested for his role in a huge laddus adulteration scandal.
Investigators found that from 2019 to 2024, about 20 crore temple laddus were made with ghee mixed with palm oil, palm-kernel oil, and chemicals—affecting millions of devotees who trusted the prasadam.

How big was the scam and what's happening now?

This wasn't small-time cheating: nearly 68 lakh kg of fake ghee worth ₹250 crore was supplied by Bhole Baba Dairy and shell companies.
The SIT has also arrested the dairy's directors and a chemical trader from Delhi for their roles.
Several top TTD officials were questioned, and investigations are ongoing.
