Tukaram Mundhe temporarily shuts Domino's, Pizza Hut outlets in Maharashtra
Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Tukaram Mundhe, nicknamed "Singham" online, is shaking up Maharashtra's food scene.
His inspections have temporarily shut down some Domino's and Pizza Hut outlets for issues like cockroaches and expired products.
Even dark stores for Blinkit and Zepto reportedly uncovered alleged food safety concerns, including pests and expired products.
Maharashtra FDA rolls out tougher penalties
A viral post by Harsh Goenka showed a sign: "Forget Michelin stars, Tukaram Mundhe approved eatery." It captures how much his food safety drive is catching on.
Mundhe's also warning people about reused cooking oil, which he says can cause serious health risks.
The Maharashtra Food and Drug Administration has rolled out stricter penalties too, including fines for serious food-safety violations, especially those involving edible oil, with jail terms ranging from seven years to life imprisonment or a fine of up to ₹10 lakh, all part of making sure what you eat is actually safe.
