Two masterminds arrested for Murshidabad Waqf protest violence
After violent anti-Waqf protests in Murshidabad this April, West Bengal Police have arrested Kausar Sheikh and Mursalim Sheikh for allegedly sparking the unrest.
The protests quickly escalated into clashes with police, arson, looting, and sadly, the deaths of three people—including Harogobindo Das and his son Chandan Das in Jafrabad.
Both accused were brought before a local court as police seek more time to question them.
Investigations underway in several cases
Police have now arrested over 300 people linked to the riots. A fact-finding panel has called out local police for not acting fast enough during the violence.
Meanwhile, local leader Mehboob Alam is being investigated for allegedly planning attacks in Dhulian.
Central paramilitary forces had to step in to calm things down.
In the tragic Das family murder case, charges have been filed against 13 suspects as investigations continue.
