UP: Baby's death sparks serious allegations against hospital staff in Pilibhit

India

In Pilibhit, Uttar Pradesh, a couple has accused district women's hospital staff of killing their 14-day-old baby after they allegedly refused to pay a ₹5,000 bribe for a post-delivery procedure.
The mother gave birth on December 3 via vacuum extraction.
The parents say their healthy newborn was slammed on the floor by staff, while the father rushed him to a private hospital after noticing head swelling.

Investigation underway; officials deny wrongdoing

Authorities have ordered an autopsy and even exhumed the baby's body to find out what really happened.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Alok Kumar said a two-member panel conducted a videographed autopsy for transparency, and legal action will depend on its findings.
Meanwhile, Chief Medical Superintendent Dr Rajesh Kumar denied any violence by staff, saying they had prepared for NICU transfer when the family left.
