UP: Cattle smuggler with ₹50,000 bounty shot dead
Waqif, a wanted criminal with a ₹50,000 bounty and between 44 and 67 serious cases against him—including murder, robbery, and cattle smuggling—was shot dead by police in Azamgarh, Uttar Pradesh.
He had been on the run for a while as the alleged leader of a gang involved in violent crime and cattle smuggling.
Three to 4 associates of Waqif managed to escape
Police teams tracked Waqif's gang after getting tipped off about illegal cattle transport near Raunapar.
When officers tried to stop them by the Chhoti Saryu river, the gang opened fire.
Police fired back, fatally injuring Waqif, who was declared dead at the hospital, while three or four of his associates escaped and are still being hunted.
This marks the 42nd police encounter in UP this year as authorities keep up their crackdown on organized crime.
The investigation into Waqif's network is ongoing.
