UP: Notorious contract killer with ₹1 lakh bounty shot dead

Banarasi Yadav, a notorious contract killer with a ₹1 lakh reward on his head, was shot dead by the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) on Tuesday night (Feb 3, 2026).
The shootout happened when Yadav allegedly fired at officers trying to arrest him on Varanasi's Bariyasanpur Ring Road.
He was taken to the hospital but didn't survive.
Yadav wanted for murder of fertilizer trader
Yadav had over 20 criminal cases against him and was wanted for the murder of fertilizer trader Mahendra Gautam.
He carried out the killing with his accomplice Arvind Yadav, who is still on the run.
Police are actively searching for Arvind and have recovered two pistols and a stash of cartridges from the scene.
Legal procedures and further investigations are underway.
