An unidentified Uttar Pradesh minister was quoted by the Hindustan Times as assuring that a probe would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the collapse and strict action would be taken against those found responsible. The mining site had nine compressors operating at the time of the incident, with one person deployed at each compressor, an anonymous worker was quoted as saying. Among those present at the site were Obra's sub-divisional magistrate Vivek Kumar Singh and other officials.
