Sonbhadra stone mine collapse: 1 dead, 15 feared trapped

A tragic incident occurred at a stone mine in Uttar Pradesh's Sonbhadra district on Saturday. The mine collapsed, killing one person and trapping around 15 others under the debris, news agency ANI reported. The incident took place in the Billi Markundi mining area under the Obra police station limits. Rescue operations are currently underway with relief teams, including state and national disaster relief forces on-site.

District Magistrate Badrinath Singh confirmed that the body of the deceased was recovered. He also said that additional equipment and machinery are being brought in to assist with rescue operations. A worker named Chhotu Yadav from Karmasar revealed that his two brothers, Santosh and Indrajit Yadav, are feared trapped under the debris.

District magistrate assures investigation into mine collapse
An unidentified Uttar Pradesh minister was quoted by the Hindustan Times as assuring that a probe would be conducted to ascertain the cause of the collapse and strict action would be taken against those found responsible. The mining site had nine compressors operating at the time of the incident, with one person deployed at each compressor, an anonymous worker was quoted as saying. Among those present at the site were Obra's sub-divisional magistrate Vivek Kumar Singh and other officials.
