UP teacher suspended for opposing 'Vande Mataram' in school

India

A government school teacher in Aligarh, UP, has been suspended after he objected to singing "Vande Mataram" at the morning assembly on November 12.
The teacher, Shamsul Hasan, reportedly raised an objection when the "Vande Mataram" song was introduced following the National Anthem, which led school authorities to file a complaint.

Teacher denies any wrongdoing

An inquiry by education officials found that Hasan had objected on religious grounds and worried about how some families might react.
He was suspended for not following orders and "hurting religious sentiments."
Hasan says he only suggested talking to families first and denies any wrongdoing.
This comes just after the state made singing "Vande Mataram" compulsory in schools to promote patriotism.
Further proceedings are underway.
