Uttar Pradesh facing 32% June rainfall deficit says IMD
Uttar Pradesh is dealing with a 32% rainfall deficit this June, thanks to the delayed southwest monsoon, says the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Normally, the monsoon hits UP by June 18, but so far, only 24.2mm of rain has fallen, way below the usual 35.4mm.
Eastern UP is feeling it most, with just 18.6mm of rain (a huge 52% deficit), while western UP actually got a bit more than expected.
IMD warns UP heat, low rainfall
IMD warns that low rainfall will stick around until July 2, and temperatures are set to climb even higher.
Central UP could see temperatures rise by up to 4 degrees Celsius above normal this week, and most regions might hit 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal next week.
Banda was the hottest spot on June 18 at a scorching 43.2 degrees Celsius; Jhansi and Varanasi also crossed 41 degrees Celsius.
Some districts may get isolated rain or thundershowers soon, but don't count on much relief yet.
