The trial of the seven accused in the Zubeen Garg death case started on Monday at the Kamrup (Metro) District and Sessions Court in Guwahati. The accused include the chief organizer of the North East India Festival (NEIF), Shyamkanu Mahanta, the singer's secretary Siddhartha Sharma, his cousin Sandipan Garg, and personal security officers Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya. Musician Shekharjyoti Goswami and singer Amritprava Mahanta appeared from Haflong Jail. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has charged Mahanta, Sharma, Goswami, and Amritprava with murder. Sandipan Garg faces culpable homicide not amounting to murder charges.

The two PSOs, Bora and Baishya, have been charged with criminal conspiracy and breach of trust by misappropriating funds or property.
